The Very First Television Shows
The first television sets were part electrical and part mechanical, consisting of spinning discs that replicated the activity of a larger spinning disc in the studio. The first intriguing images - of a ventriloquist's dummy - were transmitted by Scot John Logie Baird in 1925.
In 1927 the first tv show was aired. It was a demonstration by Bell Telephone
Labs and At&T with contributions from various executives of these companies
and a speech by the secretary of commerce, Herbert Hoover.
This was followed by many ad-hoc broadcasts from Whippany, N. J. These were
experiments and were picked up by just one tv set - at Bell Laboratories, New
York City. These broadcasts consisted of images transmitted using radio waves
and sound transmitted via cable. They were not entertainment shows - just
a few engineers and scientists testing out the new medium.
The first shows that aired to the public were those of Wrgb (known officially
as W2Xb but popularly known as Wgy's Television). Broadcasts were
beamed locally to Schenectady, N.Y. This happened to be the home town of
television (and radio) pioneer Ernst Alexanderson. Schenectady was also the home
of just four television receivers. The early Wrgb broadcasts commonly consisted of a
person sitting in a chair not doing very much except the odd hand or face
movement or a drag on a cigarette. In fact, watching citizen smoke cigarettes
seems to have been the main highlight of early tv test transmissions!
The first scheduled tv shows, and from what I can make out, the world's first
regular tv shows were farming and weather bulletins aired twice a day, 3 days
per week on Wrgb. These broadcasts were simply extensions of the output of radio
station Wgy. The first remote location broadcast, or surface broadcast, took
place in 1928, once again by Wrgb. The branch of this broadcast was Governor Al Smith's
acceptance speech of the Democratic nomination for office President of the United States.
Due to inclement weather, the ceremony was switched from surface to an indoor
location and the short notice didn't allow enough time to test the lighting and
equipment. Hence the resulting live pictures were of poor quality. Meanwhile, in
Wheaton, Maryland, Charles Jenkins' W3Xk transmitter started tests followed by
regular programs in July 1928.
These broadcasts were never verily meant or designed for wide public consumption,
however, some enthusiasts managed to build crude receivers and got to enjoy the
output. Charles Jenkins' estimated that W3Xk had an audience of 20,000.
Many incorrectly quote the Bbc's The Man with the Flower in his Mouth from
1930 as being the first broadcast play, but it was verily The Queen's Messenger,
written by J. Harley Manners and directed by Mortimer Stewart. This was aired on
Wrgb in 1928.
It must be noted that in those early days television screens were about 3
inches by 3 inches. So small, in fact, that most output consisted of a person's
upper body. "Radio with pictures" is what it was called, and that was
not far off! The images consisted of varying shades of pink or brown, depending
on the illumination used. The presenters and performers would often need to wear
dark lipstick and green makeup so that their features would not be bleached in
the very intriguing studio lights. True color television came later. The
spinning discs were at last replaced by all-electric systems. All tv shows,
including dramas, were live to air - there was no videotape or digital recording
in those days!
These pioneering broadcasts were effectively experiments (and were licensed
as such by the federal government). Most viewers were either wealthy and curious
or were hobbyists. It is unlikely that television had any real worth as an
entertainment or information medium in these early days. The extent to which
television could progress and could be networked was severely hampered by a lack
of a national suitable for telecasting. There were also many technical
difficulties not least with the revolving disc system. It wasn't until the
forties when these issues had been ironed out that tv took off in earnest.

A bug out bag (Bob), also referred to as a Get Out Of Dodge Bag (Good Bag), is a pack that has all the principal items for any survival situation for 72 hours or longer. Below I'll contribute a detailed checklist that will give you a good comprehension of what you should have in your bag. So if your weight 150 pounds, 75oz a day is your recommended amount. 128 fluid ounces is a gallon so that would mean you need to drink a miniature more than half a gallon a day.

Frost dried food and Mre's are recommended for survival because they are high calorie food rations that will contribute your body with the vigor it needs. Trail mix also has a lot of calories so you may want to consider packing some to eat while you're traveling. Alternate from side to side.

These listed here are the basic legal radios allowed to be used in the Usa today without having to have a Amature radio license. They are allowed to be used as long as no modifications have been made to them such as a "Peak and Tune" where the power has been turned up on the radio. From the facility these radio's are preset at 4 watts of power, which is legal. Tuned properly they will go up to about 35 watts, but again this is not allowed by the Fcc.
But most truckers go to the nearest "cb shop" and pay .00 to 0.00 to have a "Connex Board" and a "peak and tune" done to their radios. The "Connex Board" is a echo feature added to the inside of the radio, so as to distort (echo) the voice it also adds a talk back feature so the operator can hear themselves straight through an external speaker.
Most drivers I know ordinarily buy a decent radio (0.00) then they buy a cheap antenna to go with it. Well this won't work, your antenna is 95% of your cb outfit. I suggest any Wilson antenna, especially a Wilson 2000 or Wilson 5000. These range in price from .00 to 0.00 and that is ordinarily installed. Yes, have it installed by a tech so that they can set your Swr for your antenna. Swr- Standing Wave Ratio this is what makes your radio talk. If you have a Swr of above a 3 or more it will burn your radio up. The tech will use a Swr meter linked to your coax and antenna to check it's Swr reading. If it is to high they will cut some of the antenna whip off 1/8" increments, until a satisfactory Swr is reached. If you do not want to spend a lot on an antenna at least buy one that is tunable.
The coax is another big part of the radios performance. Which would be caught by a good tech when they were installing your "new" antenna. But if you are already using the radio and you observation it drops in performance, it will whether ordinarily be the Swr or the coax. Truck stops sell precut lengths of coax, ordinarily you will need a 18' piece to replace what is bad runs about .00, I suggest the gray or clear coax. If you are just replacing the coax you can do this yourself, unless you want the Swr checked.

I have been driving a tractor trailer for about 10+ years. I am a member to many Cb Radio Forums, also a lot of Truck Driver Forums.

You made it through truck driving school, now you need a Cb Radio? Ok, first off we need to do some investigate on Cb Radios. Do you want a 10 meter radio? Or do you want a acceptable 11 meter Cb Radio? Well it is going to have to be the latter of the two. Because unless you are a Ham Radio operator licensed through the Fcc, then it is illegal to own a 10 meter radio.
Cb Radio operators are only allowed to talk on the 11 meter band.
There are 40 channels in the 11 meter band, no Cb Channels go below channel 1- 26.965 or above channel 40- 27.405. everywhere in between you are allowed to control as long as your Cb Radio has not been "worked on", we will get into this later. There are some dissimilar kinds of Cb Radio's to select from that are legal in the Us.
